Newcastle United face Everton on the final day of the Premier League season still chasing Champions League qualification.
Anything less and Eddie Howe’s side will be forced to rely on results elsewhere, with direct rivals Nottingham Forest going head-to-head at the City Ground, while Aston Villa are away to Manchester United.
Amanda Staveley remains an avid fan of Newcastle United
Staveley was co-owner at Newcastle when they last qualified for the Champions League in 2023, having 19 months earlier brokered the £305million takeover of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.
PIF bought an 80% stake in the club, while Staveley and husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi’s PCP Partners and RB Sports & Media took up a 10% stake.
Staveley took over the day-to-day running of the football club and helped appoint head coach Eddie Howe before embarking on an 18-month journey from first battling relegation to qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.
Having overseen big money arrivals such as Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, Staveley’s last act at Newcastle was to help sort the PSR situation, which ultimately ended in the sales of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Despite leaving the club in July last year after seeing their shares bought by PIF and RB Sports & Media at an 85%/15% split, Staveley and Ghodoussi are still avid supporters of Newcastle United.
She told The Athletic last year: “Nothing is going to replicate that. I fell in love with Newcastle, the club and the people and that can’t change, but I didn’t want to get in Newcastle’s way. It’s got to be about what’s best for Newcastle.
“Mehrdad and I are keen to be hands-on. We’re hard-working people, I love to be very busy and to engage and I love football. Very sadly, we have to move on to other projects and that might involve us taking a stake in another club or buying another club and that’s difficult. But it’s possible.
“I don’t know what my future holds, but you can never move on from the love I have for Newcastle and I would love to come back for matches. I’m a Geordie now. I’m a Yorkshire Geordie, but I will always have that chemistry and that love.”
Amanda Staveley sends message to Newcastle United ahead of Everton clash
And ahead of kick-off against Everton, Staveley has taken to Instagram to wish the Magpies’ luck as they look to seal a return to Europe’s top table.
Uploading a photo of the flag ‘get into them’, the Ripon-born financier wrote in the caption: “Huge good luck to @nufc today for the last game of the season 🖤🤍 #howaythelads”
Staveley hasn’t attended a match at St James’ Park since leaving, however was at Wembley to see Newcastle end their 70-year domestic trophy drought after beating Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final.
