Manchester United will be targeting a win in their final game of a forgettable 2024/25 Premier League campaign when they welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford this afternoon, kick-off 4pm.

United were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final in midweek. The Reds have failed to win in the Premier League since the March international break, meaning they head into the clash with Unai Emery's team, who are aiming to secure Champions League qualification this afternoon, without a win in eight in the league.

United know failing to beat Villa this afternoon could see them finish just one place above the relegation zone. Tottenham will leapfrog them in the standings if they better United's result.

Head coach Ruben Amorim plans to make a post-match speech after the game and we'll bring you every word from the United boss.

The mood will be flat

After what happened in Bilbao on Wednesday night, United's players will be wishing they didn't have to play this game today.

The 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur marked the end of United's hopes of salvaging something from what has been a forgettable campaign, meaning the result this afternoon, whatever it is, will count for nothing.

United, if they fail to win, could finish just one place above the relegation zone. The potential sight of that come 6pm will be harrowing.

United's supporters will still turn out in their numbers today, just as they always do, but they are unlikely to make any sort of racket. This season has been forgettable and the sooner it ends, the better.
