Liverpool looks as though it could make a double raid on Bayer Leverkusen this summer, and keep Jeremie Frimpong’s bromance with Florian Wirtz alive in the process.
The Reds are wasting no time in strengthening Arne Slot’s squad following this season’s Premier League title triumph. Despite Trent Alexander-Arnold’s impending departure, a replacement already looks to have been found.
A deal for Frimpong looks to have been wrapped up after the 24-year-old underwent a medical this week, with an announcement just a matter of time at this stage. The right-back doesn’t look to be the only new addition this summer by any stretch - nor might he be the only new face to arrive from Leverkusen.
Liverpool now looks to be leading the race for his teammate Wirtz, with some reports even suggesting a deal could be wrapped up within days.
Bayern Munich, originally thought to be the frontrunner for the German superstar, now looks to have admitted defeat, with Liverpool.com understanding contact has been made by the Reds with Leverkusen.
A deal for Wirtz would be quite the coup for Liverpool, with the 22-year-old having established himself as one of the most exciting talents in Europe over the last couple of years.

His performances led to him being courted by the continent’s biggest sides, with Bayern, Real Madrid and Manchester City all linked. The latter ended up pulling out of the race this summer over fears about the cost of a deal.
Not only is it good news for Liverpool, but Frimpong will no doubt welcome being joined by his Bundesliga teammate too.
The pair developed a close bond at Leverkusen over the years, having sat beside each other in the BayArena dressing room. Frimpong also used to give Wirtz a ride to training before the latter learned to drive (as per The Times).

They of course played a big role in Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten domestic double under Xabi Alonso last season. With the former Liverpool midfielder having now been confirmed as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor at Real Madrid, Frimpong and Wirtz could find themselves coming up against their former boss should they be reunited at Anfield.
Liverpool.com says: It’s possible Frimpong heading to Anfield has had no bearing on Wirtz’s decision to choose Liverpool over Bayern, but it certainly couldn’t have hurt the decision.
Reuniting the pair on Merseyside could prove a masterstroke, helping them bed in quickly to a team that will be hunting down more success going forward. Hopefully they can have the same sort of impact they did at Leverkusen.
