Barcelona have reportedly decided to sign a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window and are going to go for Espanyol stopper Joan Garcia.
The 24-year-old has been linked with Barcelona this season, as well as several other clubs, and could now be on the move.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have decided to go for Garcia as they see a great market opportunity right now.
Garcia has a release clause set at just €25 million and Hansi Flick and Deco are apparently in agreement that it’s the right time to try to bring him in.
Indeed [Deco has said this week that he thinks Garcia is a “good goalkeeper”](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2025/5/22/24435030/deco-makes-barcelona-goalkeeper-admission-and-praises-target-joan-garcia) and admitted a new goalkeeper will be needed at some point.
Barca do have doubts over their goalkeepers at the moment. Inaki Pena is expected to leave this summer, while [Wojciech Szczęsny has yet to decide if he will continue](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2025/5/12/24428118/wojciech-szczesny-confirms-two-year-contract-offer-from-barcelona-but-yet-to-decide).
Yet signing Garcia won’t be easy as he has many admirers and currently plays for local rivals Espanyol. Making the switch to Barca will rile some fans and is said to worry Garcia. He also wants to be first choice if he does move and knows that Barca have Ter Stegen.
It remains to be seen what will happen next, but MD say Barca could make a move in the “coming days” now that Espanyol’s season is over.
