Barcelona eye key milestone in upcoming La Liga game against Athletic Club – Report

FC Barcelona have been the standout team in Spain this season, both in results and in style. Under Hansi Flick’s leadership, the Catalan giants have reclaimed the La Liga crown with a brand of attacking football that has lit up the competition.

Flick’s men are one of the best attacking units in Europe, and what this has meant is that the goals have been plenty. The attacking trio of Lamine Yamal – Raphinha – Robert Lewandowski/ Ferran Torres have scored goals throughout the campaign.

As Barcelona brace themselves to take on Athletic Club in La Liga later today, as per SPORT, the club are eyeing a key milestone, which is breaking the 100-goal barrier in the league this season. Currently, they sit at 99 goals and need just one more.

Hansi Flick’s Barcelona

If Hansi Flick’s men manage to do the same, it would be the first time since the 2016/17 season that Barcelona have pulled this off in La Liga. Back then, Luis Enrique’s fearsome team scored 116 goals, which was not enough to lift the Championship.

Last season, Xavi’s Barcelona scored 79 goals in La Liga but lost the title. The previous season, when they lifted the title under the Spanish tactician, the Catalan club scored only 70 goals in a season where the team was build on a strong defence.

Barcelona also managed to break the 100-goal mark back in 2015/16, where the fearsome trio of Lionel Messi – Luis Suarez – Neymar Jr. were in their primes and led Luis Enrique’s team to the La Liga title that particular campaign.

Who will score the 100th goal?

This season, Lewandowski is the team’s top scorer with 25 goals. He is closely followed by Raphinha with 18, Ferran with 10, Lamine and Olmo with 9. Incidentally, a goal from the Pole would also give him his 100th goal for Barcelona.

Given the attacking prowess Barcelona have displayed all season, it would be a shock to see them fail to score today. The real intrigue lies in who will etch their name into the season’s history books by netting the 100th league goal. With kick-off fast approaching, all eyes will be on Flick’s vibrant squad to see who delivers the milestone moment.
