Newcastle United handed massive double boost as Alexander Isak update delivered

Newcastle United have been handed a massive boost ahead of their clash with Everton at St James' Park.

Head coach Eddie Howe had gone into the encounter against the Toffees sweating on the fitness of Sweden star Alexander Isak. The £63million man had missed the 1-0 loss to Arsenal because of a groin issue last weekend.

[But he trained at the end of the week and was in the squad to face Everton for the final game of the season](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-vs-everton-live-31716155). Another boost for the Magpies was the re-emergence of Kieran Trippier who was back from a calf injury.

The ex-England man was in the squad for the visit of David Moyes' side after missing the last couple of matches. The 34-year-old has not featured since the 1-1 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Howe, [speaking to journalists at his Press conference ahead of the Everton game](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-transfer-news-live-31678900), said: "He is doing Ok. He has not trained with us yet but he has made good progress through the week.

"The next couple of days will be absolutely crucial. Until he trains with us we won't know how he will cope with the demands we put upon us.

"He’s made good progress and there’s a chance. He has to be fit enough to give his best for him to play."

Former Bournemouth star Callum Wilson is also in the squad ahead of what could be a farewell appearance if Newcastle do not announce a new deal in the next few weeks. His contract is due to expire next month.
