Commanders Rookie Getting Chance To Start

If there has been one clear reason for the Washington Commanders' quick turnaround over the last couple of years, it's their sudden draft success that may take the cake.

Second overall pick Jayden Daniels gets the most praise for the team's turnaround as a rookie star. Other players from the 2024 draft class like cornerback Mike Sainristil were key parts of the team's success last year as well.

While the team only made five picks in the following draft, they believe the collection of talent picked up will help the team reach new heights in 2025.

And NFL reporter Daniel Flick believes there is one particular player from April's class of rookies who could be expected to step up and start right away.

"Commanders first-round offensive lineman Josh Conerly Jr. has an unclear path to playing time in 2025. Amos, conversely, will compete for the starting spot opposite Marshon Lattimore, a scenario which would move ’24 second-round pick Mike Sainristil to nickel," Flick wrote. "Amos fits Commanders coach Dan Quinn’s mold at corner with length, physicality and ball skills.

"He has the traits to develop into an impact starter."

Amos has plenty of experience as a college cornerback from the SEC. The difficult poart for him will be to compete in the NFC East against some of the best receivers in the league.

Washington may look to allow Amos to make mistakes as a rookie right away. Compared to the other players in their draft class, though, Amos should be the player most expected to get playing time early on.
