Liverpool team vs Crystal Palace confirmed as Trent Alexander-Arnold decision made

The day has arrived. Virgil van Dijk, as Liverpool captain, will lift the Premier League trophy at a packed Anfield, 35 years after the league title was last won in front of Reds fans.

But first, there is a game to play. FA Cup winners Crystal Palace are the opponent, and Arne Slot has named his starting XI for what should be a celebration of his debut season at the helm.

Alisson Becker is in goal with a back four of Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, Van Dijk and Andy Robertson. Trent Alexander-Arnold is named among the Liverpool substitutes in the final game before he joins Real Madrid.

In midfield, Alexis Mac Allister has been given some extra time off, so he isn't involved. Liverpool lines up with Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones in the center of the field.

In attack, Mohamed Salah, who still needs two more goal contributions to break the Premier League record currently held by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole, is joined by Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo. Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez are among those on the bench.

"I have only been at Liverpool for one year," Slot writes in the official matchday program. "But I know how much the supporters of this club have waited for this day.

"Lifting the Premier League trophy in front of fans is something that so many people have longed for. This means it is a privilege for all of us who are fortunate enough to be involved, no matter which role we are in.

"For me as head coach, my overriding feeling is pride but not for myself — for the players, the staff, the supporters, the club and the city.

"The hard work and effort, the commitment and the devotion that has been put in not just this season but also in the years before is why we are in the position to make today every bit as special as we all could wish for.

"This means it is a day for unity and celebration. Nothing can be allowed to get in the way. Whatever might divide us can wait for another day. Whatever could distract us can be put to one side.

"This is one of the biggest days in the modern history of Liverpool Football Club, so it makes sense that we all contribute to making it as positive as it can be and enjoy it as much as possible. Again, nothing else matters.

"The reason I am saying this is I am as aware as anyone of the situation around Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and I know because these feelings have been made clear that there are some of you who would prefer for him not to be involved today.

"The first thing I have to make clear is that whatever your view, we all want what is best for this club. It is always so, so important that we all remember this."
