Team news: Five switches for Southampton finale

For his final team selection of the 2024/25 campaign, Mikel Arteta has made five switches to his line-up for our 38th and final Premier League game at Southampton.

One of those changes is enforced with William Saliba injuring a hamstring last week against Newcastle United, and his spot in the heart of defence looks set to be taken by Ben White, with Kieran Tierney coming into our backline and Thomas Partey likely to be installed at right-back.

Mikel Merino is also available again after completing a suspension, and he comes into midfield alongside Oleksandr Zinchenko, with Martin Odegaard dropping to the bench. Declan Rice is handed captaincy duties in our skipper’s absence.

Raheem Sterling is handed a start on the final game of his loan spell, as is breakout star of the season Ethan Nwaneri, with Gabriel Martinelli selected up front.

David Raya starts in goal as he aims to finish the afternoon with a second successive Premier League Golden Glove award, and Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Kai Havertz join Odegaard on a strong bench.

Already-relegated Saints meanwhile have also made five changes to the team that lost 2-0 to Everton at Goodison Park’s farewell eight days ago.

Caretaker boos Simon Rusk is without Taylor Harwood-Bellis who picked up an injury in that game, with Charlie Taylor replacing him, while right-back Yukinari Sugawara comes into a back four, marshalled by ex-Gunner Aaron Ramsdale who captains the side.

Lesley Ugochukwu is preferred to Joe Aribo in central midfield, while Jay Robinson and Ross Stewart are fresh faces on the flanks.
