Newcastle United are expected to retain William Osula for a second season after being encouraged by the 21-year-old striker’s development, according to Daily Mail’s Craig Hope.
Hope reports that Newcastle coaches have been impressed by Osula’s progress in his debut campaign, particularly his physical presence and energy.
That improvement has contributed to discussions around summer transfer planning, with the club now inclined to keep the Denmark Under-21 international as a depth option up front.
A key factor in Osula’s adaptation has been the influence of Bruno Guimaraes. According to Hope's eport, the club made a deliberate choice to seat Osula next to the Newcastle captain in the locker room, leveraging Bruno's’ strong personality to help the young striker settle in Tyneside.
Guimaraes previously played a similar role in Sandro Tonali’s integration last summer after experiencing a similar situation himself upon arrival from Lyon a few years back.
When Osula scored his first goal for the club in January’s FA Cup tie against Bromley, it was Guimaraes who encouraged him to take in the applause from the Leazes End. The striker later added his first Premier League goal against Ipswich in April and turned in a strong performance during the FA Cup win at Birmingham.
Signed for £10 million, Osula is viewed as a long-term project so we have yet to see if the trust ends up proving Newcastle right or not. With European football returning next season, however, staff believe his role as a backup striker remains valuable heading into the 2025–26 campaign.
