Manchester United target Matheus Cunha has posted to social media thanking supporters after being named Wolves' Player of the Season. The 25-year-old could play his final game for the club at Molineux against Brentford on Sunday amid reports suggesting that he is closing in on a move to Old Trafford.

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this month that United are set to approach their Premier League rivals and discuss payment of the Brazil international's £62.5million release clause in instalments. The MEN reported at the end of April that the Wolves star was hopeful of making the switch to the North West.

Chief Manchester United writer Samuel Luckhurst followed it up earlier this month that that Ruben Amorim's side were targeting at least three priority signings in the upcoming transfer window and have a confidence that they can strengthen their forward options without the need to sell.

Cunha is among the list of targets, as well as Ipswich Town talisman Liam Delap - who has been identified as a prime target for United after his exploits for the Tractor Boys during their ill-fated return to England's top flight.

The 25-year-old has had an impressive season for Wolves after almost single-handedly taking them clear of the relegation zone after finding themselves in a battle to beat the drop.

He scored 15 goals in 32 appearances in the Premier League, turning provider six times, and his exploits earned him a personal club accolade.

"Thank you for this award, player of the season," he wrote in a post on Instagram. I have no words to say how happy I was this season with all of you. Thank you to my teammates for being a family in the difficult times and in the wonderful moments we spent together.

"This season will have a different place in my heart. Thank you to God for everything." United bring an end to a dismal campaign on Sunday when they host Aston Villa.

Amorim is set to address the Old Trafford faithful and apologise following their worst league performance in over 50 years. The Portuguese head coach opted against looking too far ahead as they look to finish the season with a win over the Champions League hopefuls before assessing the players at his disposal for next year.

"In this moment I am really glad we arrived six months before we started a new season," said the United boss. "I think we will avoid a lot of mistakes in the next season. Now is the time we can use all that suffering to change things in the summer.

"It is not just the players. There are a lot of things to change. We have suffered a lot but I am really glad I arrived six months ago because it will help me in the next season. We have this game against Villa and we need to focus on that, it is not over. We want to finish in a good way in front of our supporters.

"Then after we will assess the squad. We know what we want to do. We will deal with that when the season is finished."
