Cowboys Brian Schottenheimer Has High Praise For Newcomer

The Dallas Cowboys found themselves urgently needing a backup quarterback after Cooper Rush and Trey Lance left in free agency. In an attempt to solidify the role, the Cowboys traded a fifth-round pick to the New England Patriots for young quarterback Joe Milton and a seventh-round pick.

Milton began his collegiate career at the University of Michigan, but would end up transferring to complete his time in college at Tennessee. He would have the strongest season during his final season in college, where he totaled 2,813 yards passing, 20 touchdowns, and only 5 interceptions.

The Cowboys' coaching staff immediately came away impressed with Milton at OTAs.

“I was excited about Joe before we got him," said head coach Brian Schottenheimer. "But from the time he’s been here, the work ethic is incredible. He’s one of the first people in the building. He’s one of the last to leave. The way he’s attacked the playbook and picking it up has been incredible. And it’s been fun for me to watch Dak and Will, but really Dak take a mentorship role with Joe. The talent speaks for itself. You guys will see it. He made some incredible throws (Monday). He’s just an exciting young prospect that I think the sky’s the limit for.”

Milton has not been here long, but he does already seem to have fans in the coaching office. With the offensive ability that he possesses, it is hard to imagine that he will not continue to impress with the work ethic that has already earned him such high praise. It will be vital to ensure that he is prepared to step up in the event that something should happen to Prescott.
