Liverpool supporters have responded to Virgil van Dijk’s call to savour every moment of the Reds lifting the Premier League trophy. Arne Slot’s side are in action against Crystal Palace this afternoon after which skipper Van Dijk will raise the silverware with Liverpool having clinched a record-equalling 20th championship with four games to spare.

Fans were already descending upon Anfield four hours before the scheduled 4pm kick-off with the city centre also packed with Reds supporters, many of whom are in town for tomorrow's parade around Liverpool.

Liverpool principal owner John Henry and his wife Linda Pizzuti are among many notable names in attendance, along with Reds chairman Tom Werner and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon.

Also at Anfield are former Reds managers Jurgen Klopp and Rafael Benitez and Van Dijk's predecessors Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard.

The pubs around the stadium were busy long before the start of the game, with a huge crowd building on Anfield Road to welcome the Liverpool team bus when it arrived to a sea of chants, flags and some pyrotechnics.

Van Dijk said before the game: "This is the day we have all been waiting for, and one that each and every one of us has to savour, from first minute until last.

"I know I have been looking forward to this ever since we were confirmed as Premier League champions last month, and I'm sure you guys have been exactly the same.

"There have been a few celebrations over the last few weeks, as you know, but the idea of being at Anfield and lifting that trophy in front of all our supporters? That's something different. It's something special.

"Having been denied this in 2020, we all have a duty to make the most of this opportunity, and to make it the most happy and joyful experience possible."

Reds head coach Slot added: "Lifting the Premier League trophy in front of fans is something that so many people have longed for and this means it is a privilege for all of us who are fortunate enough to be involved, no matter which role we are in.

"For me as head coach, my overriding feeling is pride but not for myself – for the players, the staff, the supporters, the club and the city.

"The hard work and effort, the commitment and the devotion that has been put in not just this season but also in the years before is why we are in the position to make today every bit as special as we all could wish for."
