Laia Codina described herself as happy and emotional after we beat Barcelona 1-0 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final on Saturday.
Speaking to us on the substitutes bench after celebrating with our supporters in Lisbon, our Spanish defender said: “Happy, I think that's just about happiness today, right now after the game, even more against Barca.
“So yeah, a little bit emotional as well.I think that the work that everyone did today was amazing, defending how we defend the goal, it was like our life was there. So it's nice to just see this and it makes you feel proud of this.”
Asked about the impact of Stina Blackstenius, who loves scoring in a cup final for the Arsenal, Codina added: “She's scored in one or two before, I think. She loves the finals in general. No, I'm so happy that the subs, they make the difference.
“So it's what it's about, no? I mean, the team in general, it doesn't matter who starts, it doesn't matter who ends the game. It's about a team.”
Lastly, with north London forever ringing around Estadio Jose Alvalade, Laia shared her thoughts on our supporters.
“The fans, not only today, they've been incredible the whole season,” she said.
“And yeah, the fact that we could deliver that Champions League final to them is nice. I'm really happy to have them. And yeah, I hope that it's the first one of more.”
