Offensive Line Questions Heading into OTA's

For the Green Bay Packers, one of the most intriguing position groups heading into the first Organized Team Activities (and training camp) will be the offensive line. There are numerous questions for the Packers coaching staff for the offensive line this offseason.

Question 1: How will the line adjust to Elgton Jenkins moving from left guard to center?

A mainstay since his rookie year, Elgton Jenkins will be making a position change in 2025. The former 2nd round draft pick in 2019, Jenkins has primarily started at left guard in his six seasons with the franchise. He has also started games at left tackle, center and right tackle. In both 2020 and 2022, Jenkins earned Pro Bowl honors for his play at left guard. However, he entered the NFL as a former center at Mississippi State. The Packers view Jenkins as a possible pro bowl-level center. Currently there is concern about Jenkins and his contract situation. He currently is hoping to renegotiate his contract that was extended in 2022.

Question 2: Will the line see an upgrade in adding Aaron Banks and losing Josh Myers?

Brian Gutekunst’s big offseason acquisition is the former 2nd round pick of Notre Dame, Aaron Banks. The 6-foot-5, 325 pound Banks started the last three seasons for the San Francisco 49ers, with most of his starts coming at left guard. In 2021, Banks was the 48th pick in the draft, 14 picks before Josh Myers, who went with the 62nd pick. In adding Banks, the Packers will be literally beefing up the interior of the line. Banks is 15 pounds heavier than Myers, who played at 310 pounds. With the success of Josh Jacobs in 2024, it is likely Banks will be asked to be one of the team’s top run blockers in 2025.

Question 3: Will Rasheed Walker continue to be Jordan Love’s blindside protector?

Rasheed Walker enters his 3rd season as the team’s likely starter at left tackle. After only playing one game as a rookie in 2022, Walker has started 32 of the last 34 regular season games at left tackle and all three playoff games. At 6-foot-6, 324 pounds, he and Banks will provide one of the bigger left tackle/left guard tandems that the Packers have ever had. Heading into his 4th and final season of his rookie contract, will Walker prove himself to be the team’s left tackle of the future? With two other starters from the same draft class (Zach Tom and Sean Rhyan), Walker will be playing this season to prove himself worthy of a big payday as a quality starting left tackle. It will likely be a challenge for Brian Gutekunst to keep all three players in 2026.

Question 4: Where will Jordan Morgan and Anthony Belton find their best fits on this year’s line?

The Packers spent high draft capital in the last two drafts on very athletic college left tackles. Last year it was Jordan Morgan out of Arizona and this year it is Anthony Belton out of North Carolina State. Morgan looks more like a natural fit at either tackle, being listed at 6-foot-5, 311 pounds. The Packers liked his athleticism at left tackle when they selected him at pick 25 in the 2024 draft. Belton, who also played primarily at left tackle, is a bigger body, which could project very well to guard. At 6-foot-6, 335 pounds he will be the Packers biggest lineman this season.

Question 5: Which developmental prospect will become a reliable backup on the line?

In the last two years, the Packers selected three linemen in Day 3: center/guard Jacob Monk out of Duke, tackle Travis Glover of Georgia State and guard John Williams out of Cincinnati. With the first seven spots on the line seem to be locks, will these three step into being reliable backups this year. Or will it be former undrafted free agents like second year players Donovan Jennings, Kadeem Telfort or rookies Tyler Cooper, J.J. Lippe or Brant Banks. In the past, the Packers have been one of the best teams at developing Day 3 or undrafted free agents as reliable offensive linemen.
