The Premier League have made a minor alteration to the iconic trophy before Liverpool get their hands on it again. Captain Virgil van Dijk will lift the cup in front of a packed out Anfield on Sunday after their encounter with Crystal Palace.

It has all been leading up to that moment for the Reds and their supporters after clinching their 20th English title with the 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the end of April. Liverpool have picked up just one point since the drubbing of the North London club but throughout that period, Arne Slot has allowed his players for extended breaks after a gruelling campaign.

Throughout the build-up to the curtain-closer on Merseyside, alterations to the trophy have been made including engraving on base as well as the red ribbons.

However, some supporters objected to the details after being afforded a closer look which showed the Reds' 2019-20 triumph featured 'Liverpool' as opposed to 'Liverpool F.C' which had been added for the Dutchman's triumph.

Ahead of Sunday's crowning moment, the Premier League engravers have made the alterations to appease the complaints over the continuity with the honours list of previous winners.

For Liverpool, it is just the second time in three decades that they have returned to the summit of English football but the second time in five years after Jurgen Klopp ended the long, agonising wait to make their way back on to their perch.

In the last month, all eyes have been on May 25, the parade on May 26 and who Liverpool will sign in the summer - with the Reds closing in on Jeremie Frimpong and in talks over a move for Florian Wirtz.

But the questions over Slot's side will be over whether they can compete next season, the former Feyenoord boss is unsure whether they have the elite mentality to do so and will stay that way until they reconvene for their preparations in July.

"We have to compete next season again but what I don't know yet, and that is going to be [an] interesting one, if we have this elite mentality, this serial winner mentality of showing up season-after-season-after-season," Slot said.

"I think I will get the answer on July 8 when we come back together to see what shape the players are in.

"Many teams have won the Premier League once but not many have won them multiple seasons in a row and that's for a reason, firstly it's so difficult but second of all, not every player has this elite mentality.

"We talk about Mo and there's no coincidence that he is already on a certain level.

"Last season, he was the most fittest when we arrived back after the break, that is a mentality that you need to have to have a chance of becoming a serial winner.

"It's something we have to prove and the players as well during the off-season.

"The first day for me to judge, if we have a chance to become serial winners, is July 8 when I see them back."
