He left it late, but Mohamed Salah has equalled the record for the most goal involvements in a single Premier League season. We run through his impressive numbers.
Mohamed Salah has another record. And water is wet.
The Liverpool star certainly left it late, though. With his goal against Crystal Palace on the final day of the 2024-25 Premier League season, the Egyptian reached 47 goal involvements in the competition, equalling a record that has stood since its early years.
Mohamed Salah Goal Involvements Record
Andrew Cole managed 47 involvements in the 1993-94 season for Newcastle United (34 goals, 13 assists), before Alan Shearer repeated the feat in 1994-95 for Blackburn Rovers (also 34 goals, 13 assists). However, both achieved those totals in 42-game seasons before the Premier League was reduced to just 20 teams ahead of the 1995-96 campaign.
Cole reached his 47 in 40 appearances while Shearer did so in 42.
Salah has gone level with both in a 38-game season, having featured in every league game for the Reds in the 2024-25 campaign.
It had already been a historic season for Salah, who beat the previous record for a 38-game Premier League campaign after just 32 games, with his assist for Luis Díaz against West Ham taking him to 45 goal involvements, overtaking the previous record held jointly by Thierry Henry (44 in 2001-02) and Erling Haaland (44 in 2022-23).
The 32-year-old, who recently signed a new two-year contract with Liverpool, only managed one more in his next five games, a goal in the 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield that sealed the Premier League title for the Reds.
It looked like Salah might run out of games to reach the overall record, but with his showing against Palace in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw on Sunday, he went level with top spot for goal involvements in a Premier League season.
He also secured the Golden Boot, finishing the season with 29 Premier League goals, and also scooped the Playmaker award for the most assists, with 18.
It could have been even greater still for the former Chelsea and Roma man, though.
No player hit the woodwork more often than Salah in the Premier League this season (6 times, joint with Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Mohammed Kudus). Salah also had more shots than any other player (130), at least 22 more shots from inside the penalty area than anyone else (119), and the most big chances (46). He also created the most chances from open play (86) and created the most big chances for others (27).
What a campaign it has been for the Egyptian King. We wonder what next season will bring.
