Ruben Amorim’s four words from Old Trafford speech could be iconic, must age better than Sir Alex Ferguson’s 2013…

Manchester United ended their wretched season with some respite in a confident 2-0 win over Aston Villa, but Ruben Amorim’s speech after the game will generate most headlines.

It is no secret that Ruben Amorim is a master communicator, which is why he doesn’t have as much pressure on him as a manager with his results at Man Utd would normally have.

Therefore, when he took the mic at the end of Man Utd’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa, it was always going to be something to watch out for.

What nobody expected were the goosebumps-inducing four words from him which could be iconic, if only they age better than Sir Alex Ferguson’s 2013 comments.

Ruben Amorim’s four iconic words

Amorim had made it clear before the game that he would address the crowd after the fixture from the Old Trafford pitch, as is tradition.

Erik ten Hag did it in a stirring manner before going on to lift the FA Cup, so there was no such respite to cling on for Amorim.

He started by apologising for the season, and with good reason, before laying out what lies in the future for the club.

Amorim took the Man Utd fans back to what he said after three games in charge, when he won two and drew the other.

His “The storm is coming” remark has aged like wine, when most fans would have hoped he turns out wrong. What he’s said now will have fans hoping he’s right.

From the whole speech, the fans were rallied when Amorim promised that he was right when he said the storm was coming, but he promised now that the “Good days are coming”.

Those four words were enough to rally the fans, with all eyes now on the next season.

Ruben Amorim’s words are poetic, actions will be scrutinised now

Nobody ever doubted that Amorim would knock his speech out of the park regardless of how the season has gone.

He has the uncanny ability and limitless charisma of a leader who can rally his troops, something which has endeared him to the fans.

However, the time to back up the words with actions will now begin, starting from the summer transfer window.

He effectively had a free pass for these seven months or so, with so many mitigating factors making it impossible to judge him properly.

With a transfer window and a pre-season, they will no longer be a factor and marked improvement will need to be visible next season.

You’re up, leader. These words will either be trolled or age as iconic.
