Trent Alexander-Arnold addressed Liverpool's supporters in an emotional television interview after making his final appearance for the club against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The right-back was introduced as a second-half substitute and put in a brilliant performance, producing a number of trademark deliveries that could easily have been assists.
Alexander-Arnold enjoyed a far more pleasant afternoon than the one he experienced a fortnight ago, when he was booed onto the pitch just days after he confirmed that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season.
Against Palace, there were no jeers, and when he collected his Premier League winner's medal after the game, he received a huge cheer — the volume of which was rivaled only by the cheers that Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah received.
After the game, Alexander-Arnold spoke to Sky Sports, before being joined by his friends and family on the field, at which point he burst into floods of tears at the emotion of the occasion.
He said: "I didn't know what to expect stepping out at Anfield today after what happened a few weeks ago but I wanted to play for the club one more time, and I said that to the manager and he trusted me to go in at half-time.
"To get the reception that I got means more than anything to me. I've played hundreds of games for the club but I've never felt more loved and more cared for than today.

"From the bottom of my heart, I hope that one day, the fans and supporters of this club are able to recognize the hard work and everything that I've done for the team, because there wasn't a day, a minute or a second that I didn't think about the team, from six years old to 26 years old.
"Twenty years is a very, very long time, but I've loved every single minute of it. The ups and the downs, coming through the academy to the first team, and then being part of the first team properly. It's been an honor and a privilege for me to be part of this club."
Asked by interviewer Daniel Sturridge whether it had sunk in that he had played his last game for the club, Alexander-Arnold responded: "No because it's all I've ever known.
"At times you catch yourself wondering that you'll be back next season, then you realize that's not the case, because it's changed, but I'll remember these moments for the rest of my life, especially a day like today. It goes down for me as the best day in my life, a very special achievement for me and the team and the club."
