Newcastle United will be in the hat for the Champions League draw later this summer.
Indeed, Newcastle United confirmed their qualification for the Champions League despite losing to Everton on the final day of the Premier League season. The fact Manchester United beat Aston Villa was enough to get the Toon over the line.
Now, Eddie Howe’s side can start dreaming again. Guaranteed at least eight games in next year’s competition following a significant change in format since their last appearance in the tournament, some big teams will come to St James’ Park.
Newcastle, of course, famously thrashed Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 on Tyneside in October 2023 and will feel confident about beating anyone on their day when the competition gets back underway.
Clearly, much will depend on the draw. Newcastle were in a group of death last time out with PSG, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund and narrowly missed out on the knockout stages as a result.

When is the 2025-26 Champions League draw?
The draw for the 2025-26 Champions League first phase will be made on Thursday 28 August, 2025.
A start time has not yet been confirmed, though last year’s started at 11am BST. It will likely take place at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

Which Champions League pot will Newcastle United be in?
That is yet to have been confirmed.
However, it’s been predicted that Newcastle United will be in pot four in the Champions League rankings, due to their UEFA coefficient.
When does the Champions League first phase start?
Newcastle will begin their Champions League campaign on either Tuesday 16 September or Wednesday 18 September, 2025.
The league phase – consisting of eight games – runs until Wednesday 28 January, 2026.
It remains to be seen if Newcastle reach the knockout stages but they begin on Tuesday 17 February, 2026.
Where is the 2025-26 Champions League final?
Fans will no doubt be dreaming about a potential run to the 2025-26 Champions League final.
Next year’s showpiece event takes place at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary on Saturday 30 May, 2026.
