Ruben Amorim had no space for Alejandro Garnacho in his squad that took on Aston Villa this afternoon.
Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho was booted from the squad ahead of the Red Devils’ final match of the Premier League season against Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
The 20-year-old has fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim and has struggled for minutes at Old Trafford. Garnacho was only afforded 19 minutes in the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and those minutes could be the player’s last ones in a Manchester United shirt.
The Argentinian has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal with Serie A giants Napoli also said to be interested in a move for the rising star. Garnacho has made 36 Premier League appearances this season and his absence against the Villains is the first time he has not played a part in a first team match since the 2-1 win against Manchester City in December.
Alejandro Garnacho left out of Manchester United squad
Speaking about his decision to leave Garnacho out of the side as transfer rumours swirl, Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim said: “Alejandro Garnacho continues to be a Man United player, not in the squad today but still a Man United player. He will fly with us for post-season tour. We need to be all there, we have to give something back to our fans.”
Amorim is adamant that Garnacho will remain on the books at Old Trafford but his exclusion from the squad comes just hours after the player’s partner Eva Garcia appeared to hint at a transfer exit for the player on social media. Garcia posted a photo of a full baby Manchester United strip to her 663,000 Instagram followers with the ominous caption ‘last match’.
Garnacho himself has made no secret of being unsettled at Manchester United. Speaking after his lack of minutes in the Europa League final, he said: “Up until the final I played every round helping the team, and today I play 20 minutes, I don’t know. The final will influence [my decision] but the whole season, the situation of the club. I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens afterwards.”
Chelsea and Arsenal linked with Red Devils forward
Chelsea were hotly tipped to be interested in a move for the player during the January window but nothing came of those rumours. Transfer specialist Ben Jacobs maintained that the player remains a ‘possibility’ for Enzo Maresca’s side this summer. Meanwhile, TBRFootball this week claimed that Arsenal are also in the race.
The Gunners are known to be in the market for a winger this summer and the outlet reports that Garnacho’s representatives have reached out to the north London club to confirm that he is wanting a move. The player’s camp are said to see Arsenal as the perfect fit for the winger’s profile but it remains to be seen if Arsenal bite on those suggestions.
The Telegraph have recently slapped a £60 million fee on Garnacho, suggesting that any bid of that amount would be enough for Manchester United to green light an exit. That would be a sizeable profit for the Red Devils, who paid peanuts to recruit the player from Atletico Madrid in 2022 when bringing him into the youth academy in the North West.
