Austin Reaves concluded the 2024-25 NBA season as a key contributor for the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 20.2 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.5 rebounds over 73 games. His consistent performance solidified his role as the team's third offensive option, complementing stars LeBron James and Luka Doncic. Reaves' ability to create plays and make shots made him an indispensable asset throughout the season.
Reaves underperformed in the playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves, as he saw his stats drop to 16.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists in the series. Although it was revealed that a left big toe strain hampered his performance (via Dan Wokie of the LA Times), the Lakers' surprise elimination has led to speculations about Reaves' future in LA.

Trade rumors have emerged, suggesting potential deals involving Reaves in exchange for a center, aiming to improve the team's frontcourt alongside Doncic and James. His agent fired back at those rumors on Sunday in a post on X, which comes after a report from Bleacher Report's Eric Pincus on Reaves' expected future.
“Reaves is nearly sure to decline his $14.9 million player option for the 2026-27 season to explore unrestricted free agency next summer, seeking a salary in the $30 million starting range," he wrote. "The most he can extend for ($19.5 million) is far short of that number. Any team acquiring him would need behind-the-scenes assurances that he’d re-sign at a pre-arranged price, although they wouldn’t be technically legal or binding.”
As Reaves eyes a potential $30 million-per-year deal, the Lakers now face a critical decision: commit long-term to one of their most consistent performers or risk losing him to a rival willing to pay his market value. Either way, Reaves’ rise has firmly established him as a player worth investing in.
