Chelsea secured a return to the UEFA Champions League with a 1-0 Premier League season finale triumph at Nottingham Forest. A second-half goal by Levi Colwill was enough as it cemented the Blues’ position among the European elite next season.
The game was tight, with both teams knowing that victory would earn them Champions League qualification. The Blues broke the deadlock in the 50th minute after a goalless first half. Pedro Neto’s cross picked out Colwill, who tapped home at close range to put the visitors ahead.
Forest tried to respond, with two opportunities missed by striker Chris Wood, but the Blues’ defence was firm enough to hold them. This win secures them fourth position in the Premier League. Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Newcastle United are all getting into Champions League next year.
Seventh position was taken by Nottingham Forest, who needed a win to get into the Champions League. Insead, they will be playing in UEFA Conference League, their return to European competition after a first time since 1996.
Chelsea next look to the UEFA Conference League final against Real Betis in hopes of finishing the season with a trophy.
Chelsea Turn Towards Betis in Conference League Final
Chelsea will meet Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final on 28th May at Poland’s Stadion Wrocław. The Blues will be looking to become the first side to have won all of UEFA’s top competitions, while Betis will be looking to claim their first European crown.
The Blues have enjoyed a decent season, with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez dominating the midfield. Christopher Nkunku might be struggling with fitness, but Nicolas Jackson will be available for the Betis game.
Real Betis, managed by Manuel Pellegrini, have made it to their first European final. Antony has proven himself to be a force since his loan move from Manchester United, and he will be expected to change the game for the Spaniards. The Blues may be favorites, but Betis’ resilience guarantees an exciting game.
