Liverpool have reportedly opened contact with Sporting regarding a transfer for Viktor Gyokeres, according to FootballTransfers.
The Reds have wasted no time in bolstering their squad off the back of their Premier League-winning campaign. They have already all-but-confirmed a deal for Bayer Leverkusen ace Jeremie Frimpong to replace the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold, and they have a transfer in the works for Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez as well.
However, it was the move for German sensation Florian Wirtz which truly stunned the football landscape - Arne Slot and his entourage are evidently prepared to do whatever it takes to ensure they compete for the major titles next season, and it now looks as though they could splash out for a new striker as well.

Per the report from FootballTransfers, Liverpool are "ready to rival" Arsenal in the chase for Gyokeres' signature, and are prepared to match offers that arrive for the Swedish international. A fee in the region of €65 million (£55 million) should be enough to convince Sporting to part ways.
Described as "Europe's most-wanted striker", Gyokeres is on the radar of several English clubs. Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim was keen to reunite with his former player, but Fabrizio Romano revealed in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter that a move for the 26-year-old was "more complicated" following the team's Europa League final loss.

Arsenal have retained an interest, but Liverpool could trump the Gunners thanks to the allure of playing for the Premier League champions. Moreover, Gyokeres would arrive at Anfield as the starting number nine with Darwin Nunez expected to leave the club this summer.
With a remarkable 53-goal return in just 51 appearances across all competitions this term, Gyokeres has been labelled as the "best striker in the world". It would likely be a major problem for European football if Slot is able to get his hands on both the Swede and Wirtz this summer to add to the already-talented Liverpool squad.
