Just in: Man Utd agree five-year deal to sign 'world-class' star with shirt number revealed

Manchester United have agreed a five-year contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, according to Ben Jacobs.

Cunha looks set to leave Wolves this summer after an impressive season in the Premier League. Despite Vitor Pereira's side struggling near the bottom of the table, the Brazil international has stood out, contributing significantly in the final third for the Wanderers.

United are likely to be in the market for a host of reinforcements when the transfer window opens after a disastrous campaign. Not only did Ruben Amorim's side finish in the bottom half of the league, they also lost the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.

Reporting on X, Jacobs has confirmed that Cunha has agreed a five-year deal with Manchester United, and the Red Devils will now approach Wolves. The Brazilian is expected to wear the number 10 shirt at Old Trafford, while he will start on July 1st.

"Exclusive: Matheus Cunha has agreed a five-year contract with #MUFC. Manchester United will now approach Wolves this week. Cunha has a £62.5m clause. Cunha expected to wear No.10 at #MUFC if all goes to plan."

Cunha, described as 'world-class', has a £62.5m release clause in his contract, which United could activate to get a deal done quickly. In Amorim's system, Cunha could be deployed behind the striker in one of the two attacking midfield positions. His versatility means he could also be deployed in a centre-forward role if needed, making him a useful signing for the Red Devils.

There's no doubt United desperately need new additions in the upcoming transfer window, and bringing in Cunha in the coming days or weeks would be an excellent start. The fact that Cunha is willing to join the club despite their failure to qualify for the Champions League is a great sign that he's really bought into the idea.

Amorim will undoubtedly be after more additions than just Cunha, so it could be an exciting transfer window ahead for the Red Devils.
