Liverpool’s owners could be set to receive a significant blow in their efforts to begin their multi-club model.
John Henry has made it clear he wants to add another club to Fenway Sports Group’s (FSG) portfolio alongside the Premier League champions.
The Boston-based firm appointed Michael Edwards as its chief executive of football last year, with the offer including him helping to identify and manage a second club.
In a new development, GiveMeSport reported on 20 May the FSG chief has now been approached by Al-Hilal to discuss taking up a senior role at the club.
It said Edwards is happy in his current position, but he has shown a desire to engage and discuss a potential role for the future with the Saudi Pro League side.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Edwards has likely been offered an “extraordinary” amount of money to make the move to the Middle East.

Liverpool face ‘big’ blow after Michael Edwards update
Borson insisted it would be a “big” blow for Liverpool if Edwards were to quit his current role.
He told Football Insider: “It looks like he’s done a good job, and he just came back relatively recently.
“I think it’d be a big blow, but the fact that he’s engaging probably means that the money that’s being offered is extraordinary and probably too much to turn down.
“I don’t think Liverpool will be able to compete.
“If you’ve got an executive where somebody is bidding him up and let’s say paying two, three or maybe even more times his salary because the salaries are not comparable to players.
“Then on top of that, he’s going tax free. Liverpool will not be able to compete on the financial side of things, and it’s life-changing money for Edwards.
“He may well think that that’s something he needs to do.”
