Arne Slot's Liverpool will dominate European football for years to come if they move for Alexander Isak after completing a deal for Florian Wirtz.
Fabrizio Romano has exclusively revealed that the Reds are "advancing to the final stages" of a deal for Wirtz, who has chosen them over Bayern Munich. They are set to pay more than €100m (£84m) for the German attacking midfielder, breaking their transfer record of £75m spent on Virgil van Dijk in 2018.
Liverpool are also expected to be in the market for a new striker once they wrap up a deal for Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong's imminent arrival as Trent Alexander-Arnold's replacement for £30m. The club have several options, but Isak is the top choice and he's become one of the Premier League's best forwards at St James' Park.

Isak has been in sensational form this season, arguably the most impressive number nine in the English top-flight, even including Manchester City's Erling Haaland. The Norwegian might be setting goalscoring records, but Newcastle's Isak is a more well-rounded frontman, akin to Thierry Henry, who many deem the greatest player in Premier League history.
Wirtz has showcased his playmaking magic throughout his time at Leverkusen and often put balls on a plate for Victor Boniface and Patrick Schick. The 22-year-old German's creativity would perfectly blend with Isak's instinctive movement and clinical finishing abilities.
Liverpool will reportedly have the funds required to complete both transfers, with Newcastle thought to value the 25-year-old Swedish striker at £127m. If Slot gets his hands on both players, he could create one of European football's all-time powerhouses that surges towards UEFA Champions League glory.
“Newcastle have so much quality throughout the squad but especially up front... that shot from Isak – I don’t even know if Caoimh [Kelleher] saw that ball, as hard as it was" - Arne Slot on Isak's Carabao Cup final goal vs Liverpool.
We saw with Paris Saint-Germain how important having strength in depth in attack is, particularly their dominance against the Reds over both legs of their Round of 16 meetings. Exit-linked Darwin Nunez hasn't lived up to expectations, and there isn't a better replacement than Isak, who has the versatility to drop out wide and form a formidable frontline with Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz.

If Slot wants to build on his side's Premier League title win, the next step is thriving in Europe, and a new number nine is essential. While RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko has been touted, as has Brighton & Hove Albion's Joao Pedro. But Isak, reportedly "intrigued by an Anfield switch", is ready-made for the role with proven experience leading the line in the top-flight.
