70-touch Man United star was flawless vs Aston Villa in final Old Trafford appearance

Manchester United bid farewell to at least three players during the win over Aston Villa.

The curtain has been drawn on a terrible Premier League campaign with Manchester United beating Aston Villa 2-0 at Old Trafford.

After the disappointment of the Europa League final last week, it was important for Ruben Amorim’s side to end on a high note.

Amad Diallo opened the scoring after United came frustratingly close a number of times in the first hour. Christian Eriksen then doubled United’s lead after being gifted a penalty by captain Bruno Fernandes.

Christian Eriksen impresses, Victor Lindelof flawless vs Aston Villa

It was confirmed well before Sunday that Christian Eriksen is set to leave this summer and he was given a perfect send-off by United.

Alongside him, defensive duo Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof are set to depart, and both played a big role in Sunday’s victory.

Lindelof was named as a starter by Amorim, meaning he will leave United with 284 appearances for the Red Devils.

The 30-year-old stepped up against Villa and put on a near-flawless display to pick up one final clean sheet before bidding farewell to Old Trafford.

Across his 90-minute performance, Lindelof boasted a 95% passing accuracy with 60 out of 63 passes completed.

He was heavily involved on the right side of United’s defence, taking 70 touches and winning two of his three duels.

How Ineos can replace Victor Lindelof this summer

Amorim’s style of play at United relies on having three athletic centre-backs capable of holding a high line and being aggressive out of possession.

With both Lindelof and Evans leaving this summer, it is up to Ineos to source suitable replacements.

Ideally, the likes of Ayden Heaven and Tyler Fredricson could save United millions by making the step up to becoming first-team regulars next season.

Both academy youngsters have been hugely impressive for the Red Devils this season and could save a large portion of United’s £100m transfer budget this summer.

With Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt returning from injury, Amorim may be comfortable with his defensive options heading into 2025/26.
