Christian Eriksen reflects on‘special’ time at Man Utd, announces plans for ‘next chapter’ following exit

Manchester United said goodbye to three players after their final game of the season, including Christian Eriksen.

A dire 2024/25 campaign ended in victory as Manchester United beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Old Trafford, thanks to goals from Amad Diallo and Christian Eriksen.

The win over Aston Villa saw United jump to 15th place in the final week of the Premier League season.

Ruben Amorim will make it his priority to improve United’s league form next season, especially since there won’t be any European football for the Red Devils. That means the objective will be to qualify for the Champions League.

With multiple players expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, Ineos will hope to make new signings that will enhance Amorim’s chances of winning football matches consistently.

Christian Eriksen confirms exit after Man Utd beat Aston Villa

After scoring the winning goal against Aston Villa, Eriksen wasted no time announcing his plans for the future.

Eriksen scored from the penalty spot as United beat Villa 2-0 on the final day of the season. It was the Denmark international’s first Premier League goal this term.

The 33-year-old came on as a second-half substitute and was given a chance to score in the closing minutes of the match after United’s head coach Amorim ordered Bruno Fernandes to let the Dane take the spot kick.

In a post-match interview with TNT Sports, Eriksen confirmed he will leave United next month when his contract expires.

“Yes, that is correct [that it will be his final game for United],” Eriksen said. “I think that is also why Bruno gave me a penalty as a nice farewell.

“I think we did it today for the fans. It has been a tough season, but I am going to wish them all the best. It is an incredible stadium [Old Trafford], an incredible club and I have no doubt I will be back at some point.

“It has been an exciting few years being in this stadium and playing for this club. I have enjoyed it and I take a lot of good memories with me.”

Eriksen reveals future plans

Eriksen feels he still has something to offer on the football pitch, which means he is looking for a new club rather than preparing to announce his retirement.

After making 35 appearances for United this season, there is no reason to think Eriksen cannot play regularly if he drops a level or two.

When asked what he has planned next, Eriksen added: “First of all, a holiday and relax, and then the national team.

“Then I will see what the future holds. I am still fit to play.”

Eriksen joined United on a free transfer in July 2022 and scored eight goals in 107 appearances for the club.
