Liverpool target Jeremie Frimpong took to social media following the Reds' Premier League title victory, as he edges closer to a move to Anfield. But it wasn't to congratulate his potential future team, instead it showed him on the other side of the Atlantic.
The Dutchman is currently recuperating after a demanding Bundesliga season, while his international teammates, Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch, celebrated their top-flight success.
Liverpool is nearing a deal to sign the 24-year-old, a move that would strengthen their right-side options alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold. It's anticipated that Liverpool will activate the Dutchman's £30 million ($40 million) release clause, a transfer that could kickstart a bustling summer at Anfield as they aim to bolster their squad ahead of their title defense next season.
On the eve of Liverpool's triumphant moment, Frimpong engaged in friendly banter with some of his international teammates, including Ryan Gravenberch, with whom he shared a light-hearted joke after being named Young Player of the Season.
Frimpong has been spending his off-season break in Boston, Massachusetts, keeping busy with activities involving New Balance.
Amid Liverpool's title celebrations, the Bayer Leverkusen defender posted a photo with New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, where they exchanged jerseys.
Despite the ongoing transfer rumors, Liverpool's head coach has kept mum about who they'll be welcoming in the upcoming weeks, with the transfer window set to open on June 1.
"What do you think?" Slot responded, when quizzed about Frimpong following their loss to Brighton.
"I think what we all know is the moment we announce it, that is the moment to talk about it in general. We haven't announced anything so no need to talk about anyone."
Gakpo was similarly probed regarding the potential addition of another Dutch player in the form of Frimpong. Yet, he too kept mum on the escalating speculation.
"Maybe, I don't know yet," he remarked. "Maybe you know more than me!".
"But yes, obviously another Dutchman, English as well, but a very good guy. We know him from the national team and a very good player as well so let's see if he comes or not."
