Man Utd star confirms departure after final game with two teammates to join him

Christian Eriksen has announced his impending departure from Manchester United, with his exit set for next month when his contract reaches its expiration at the end of June.

In what was a dramatic final appearance for the club, Eriksen converted a spot-kick in their 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on the conclusion of the Premier League season at Old Trafford.

The Danish playmaker came off the substitutes' bench in the second half and capitalized on a penalty chance in the last moments of the game after head coach Ruben Amorim instructed Bruno Fernandes to let Eriksen take the kick as a proper send-off.

Speaking with TNT Sports shortly after the match concluded, Eriksen confirmed: "Yes, that is correct. I think that is also why Bruno gave me a penalty as a nice farewell. I think we did it today for the fans.

"It has been a tough season, but I am going to wish them all the best. It is an incredible stadium, an incredible club and I have no doubt I will be back at some point.

"It has been an exciting few years being in this stadium and playing for this club. I have enjoyed it and I take a lot of good memories with me."

When questioned about his future plans, Eriksen replied: "First of all, a holiday and relax, and then the national team. Then I will see what the future holds. I am still fit to play."

Eriksen joined United on a free transfer in July 2022, following a commendable spell at Brentford as he made his comeback after suffering a heart attack during Euro 2020. He clocked up over 100 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals.

His wasn't the only poignant moment of the second half, as Jonny Evans was brought on for his 241st and final appearance for United. His contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and it appears likely that he'll hang up his boots.

It was also confirmed that Victor Lindelof, the Swedish international who came with a £30 million ($40.6M) price tag during Jose Mourinho's reign, will also be leaving on a free transfer when his contract runs out.
