Roy Keane believes Manchester United must go 'back to basics' with their transfer business this summer, insisting 'they can't be any worse' after a nightmare season.
United stuttered to a 15th-placed finish in the Premier League after beating Aston Villa 2-0 on the final day but were left reeling after losing the Europa League final.
Ruben Amorim is expected to be given funds to strengthen his squad after vowing to remain in charge and Keane is adamant he would do well to look closer to home.
Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Ipswich striker Liam Delap are targets - and Keane believes United need 'men' to help them cope with the rigours of the top-flight.
Delivering his damning verdict on his former club on Sky Sports, Keane said: 'They can't be any worse next year, can they? They can't be any worse.
'They'll have to improve. Obviously, a few players' contracts are up, they'll leave. We go back to recruitment. They need to get in players who know the Premier League.

United beat Aston Villa 2-0 on the final day but are reeling from their Europa League final loss
'The majority of signings over the past two or three years are players who have never played in the Premier League and they've struggled to adapt to it.
'They have to go back to basics and get some really good, proper experienced players who know the Premier League, and that are men who are robust, who can turn up week in, week out and do a good job for Man United.
'I don't mean challenge for titles but get Man United back up the table.'
Alejandro Garnacho is likely to be sold to raise funds while captain Bruno Fernandes raised the prospect of departing for Saudi Arabia after the final loss to Tottenham.
Despite him being United's standout performer over the past five years, Jamie Redknapp says Amorim should sell Fernandes for the eye-watering fee on offer.
Redknapp told Sky Sports: 'It tells you everything when you look and go through that squad and think to yourself, how many of them would you not sell this summer?
'I think apart from Leny Yoro, purely because he hasn't been there long and he's a young player, I think every single United player will be up for sale.'
Asked whether that also included Fernandes, who scored 19 goals this season, Redknapp replied: 'I would right now, yeah, and I'm a big fan.

Jamie Redknapp has told United to take the money on offer to improve their wider squad
'I think he's a game-changer but I think if the right money came about and you could then invest into the squad and I think he is a good player, I think he's a top footballer.
'He was poor in mid-week, but he has been their leading light this year but if the right money were to come available and you can improve your squad.
'I would certainly take it.'
