Until the Baltimore Ravens signed free agent running back Derrick Henry last offseason, the team boasted a number of serviceable backs.
The offense employed a "running back by committee" scheme that included Justice Hill, J.K. Dobbins and Keaton Mitchell, where the three shared carries throughout the season.
After Henry's arrival last year, Dobbins left for free agency, and Hill and Mitchell were relegated to backups. Dobbins went to play for Jim Harbaugh with the Los Angeles Chargers and had a career season, although missing the final month with a sprained MCL.
One media outlet thinks Dobbins could have a chance to revive his career in Miami in 2025.
"Dobbins is more than deserving of a critical role in a team’s offense. He’s coming off the best season of his career, accumulating 905 yards on the ground in 2024, a career high," Ebony Bird wrote. "He also scored nine touchdowns, continuing to have a nose for the end zone. He did all this in 13 games. The talent is still there. In Houston, their lead back, Joe Mixon, continued to torch defenses last season. He finished with 1,016 yards on the year with 11 touchdowns. With such a strong campaign, Mixon earned his second career Pro Bowl.
"Dobbins obviously won’t compete for a starting role if he does opt to sign with the Texans, but he could carve out a substantial role to keep Mixon fresh and healthy. It won’t come effortlessly, though."
Dobbins set career highs in carries (195) and yards (905), and tied a career high in touchdowns (nine).
After entering the league in 2020, he missed all of 2021 with an injury. So he'll technically enter his fifth season of football next year, and it looks like he has plenty of football left.
