Warriors Competing With Lakers in Free Agency For Former Guard

The Golden State Warriors' season and hopes of a championship came to an unfortunate end at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals.

It was far from an easy season. At one point, the Warriors were as low as the No. 12 seed in the Western Conference. But once they made the blockbuster trade for Jimmy Butler, they took off.

The Warriors went 23-7 with Butler in the lineup, but still couldn't clinch an outright spot in the NBA Playoffs.

Golden State had to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA Play-In Tournament before taking on the Houston Rockets in the first round.

While they were successful in that series, the Warriors suffered a stunning blow when Stephen Curry suffered a hamstring injury. From then on, their lack of depth and shooting became obvious.

As the Warriors analyze which players they believe would complement Butler and Curry, a reunion with De'Anthony Melton could be in the works.

According to Anthony V. Slater, the Warriors could consider bringing him back on a veteran's minimum contract.

However, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the Warriors could have some competition for Melton's services, as the Los Angeles Lakers could emerge as a potential landing spot.

Melton was solid for the Warriors this past season, averaging 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, but a torn ACL limited him to just six games before he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets.
