Commanders Needs At Receiver Are Overrated in 2025

Depending on who you ask, the Washington Commanders have a clear need at the wide receiver position, even after trading for All-Pro standout Deebo Samuel in March.

Moe Moton from The Bleacher Report suggested that the organization should move quickly to sign Pro Bowl receiver Amari Cooper to a new deal.

"If Cooper prefers to play with a young quarterback like Josh Allen, the Washington Commanders could be an option if the interest is mutual," Moton said.

Is that really the case, though? Should Washington add an additional receiver following the acquisition of Samuel?

The answer is a simple one.

No.

Washington has an elite young quarterback in Jayden Daniels. They just reached the conference championship game without a proven second receiver. Now that they have added Samuel, the need for a second receiver has been solved.

There's no reason for Washington to add another weapon at this time. Especially one who is as inconsistent as Cooper has been in recent seasons.

The team has also drafted young receivers like Luke McCaffrey and Jaylin Lane in the last couple of years. The Commanders would be better served by giving those young players a chance instead of signing an aging veteran.

Moton isn't the only analyst discussing Washington's receiver position. With the team's current state, though, the organization shouldn't be too worried about the group at the start of OTAs.

Even if it means ignoring a former rival in Cooper for the time being.
