Top ten finish the 'least Cherries deserved' after excellent season

This season has seen the club break numerous records, including their highest points tally in the top flight, most goals scored and fewest conceded, as well as recording a first win over Manchester City and the first double over Arsenal.

And their win on the final day sealed ninth in the league, to equal their best ever finish in the Premier League, along with the 2016/17 season under Eddie Howe - although they recorded ten more points this season.

Reflecting on securing a top ten finish, Iraola said: “I think it's like the least we deserve this season.

“I've really enjoyed this season with the team, but it's very good to finish the best this club has finished with the most points, the more goals scored, the less goals conceded.

“The numbers are very good. But for me the most important thing is the moments, the memories. In a season we've created a lot of moments that I think we will remember.

“And to finish ninth, because otherwise to finish this season outside of the top 10 would be really unfair, I would feel for us and I'm really pleased because it hasn't happened and at least we received this 56 points, ninth position, that for me is really good.”

Asked where this season ranks personally for him, and whether it is his best season as a manager, Iraola said: “Probably, because for me the promotion probably to La Liga [with Rayo Vallecano] is like the one that changes a little bit like your life in the way that you go to the top level.

“But this season is the one I enjoyed more because I felt every time we've been competitive in every moment.

“And I liked a lot how the team has played and I would use the enjoyable word probably when, other seasons are more important, less important. But this one, I really enjoyed it with the players and it's something that I have to thank them for.”
