Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre was a controversial figure during his playing career. He is even more of one now. Favre’s glory days with the Packers, of course, included numerous achievements on the gridiron as he forged a career that ended with his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
But even when he was at the height of his success, winning three-consecutive NFL MVP Awards and a Super Bowl, Favre battled demons of his own. His addiction to painkillers was well-documented, as was his decision to enter rehab to battle it. Recently, Deanna Favre’s account of what he was like during this time resurfaced, and it does not paint a bright and cheery picture.
Unfortunately, Favre’s struggles off the field did not end when his time in Green Bay did. If anything, they became far more public, and some would argue worse.

Brett Favre walks through the snow to the huddle in the 3rd quarter. The Green Bay Packers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 42-20 in the divisional playoff game at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI Saturday January 12, 2007.

Most recently, as fans are aware, Favre has been linked to the Mississippi Welfare Scandal, which alleges that he helped steal millions of dollars from the state’s Temporary Assistance for Need Families (TANF) Fund. And while he has not been arrested, charged, or indicted for any crimes, one of his former business partners, also investigated in the scandal, has pled guilty to wire fraud.
For some, Favre’s alleged involvement in this scandal was not a surprise. One of these people was former New York Jets sideline reporter Jenn Sterger.
Back in 2010, when Favre was playing for the Minnesota Vikings, it was reported that he had sent Sterger several explicit messages, including a picture of his, well, anatomy.
He also was accused of harassment by two former Jets employees who worked as masseuses.

Last week, Netflix released a new documentary entitled “The Fall of Favre.” This feature detailed all of the scandals described above, but spent a great deal of time detailing the accusations levied against him by Sterger, who was interviewed at length for the documentary.
And during her interview, she revealed something many fans may find shocking: she has never met Favre. Not once.
“So, here’s the craziest part about the whole scandal — I’ve never met Brett Favre. We’ve never been in the same room, we’ve never shaken hands, we had no kind of relationship, no rapport, nothing.”
And of the things that were said about her when her story was first reported (without her consent), Sterger said, “… I was never treated like a person. I think one of the reasons why it’s so hard for people to have any empathy for me on the internet is because I’m just a picture to them and he was Brett Favre.”
“The Fall of Favre” did not really present any new information regarding any of the scandals Favre was allegedly involved in. However, he did decline Netflix’s invitation to be interviewed.
It would be interesting to hear his side of the story, though the photos, texts, and emails that were saved and presented in the documentary certainly make one understand why he declined the invite.
