"The Reds have got no money, but we still won the league." The words to the song are not strictly true, of course, but Liverpool has brought home the Premier League title after a summer in which it only bought Federico Chiesa— a man who has barely featured, and didn't even make the matchday squad for the final game.
The Italian has played so little that he has become a forgotten man for many outside of the Anfield circle, but Arne Slot — since taking over from Jurgen Klopp — has got much more from the likes of Ryan Gravenberch (despite his sending off against Crystal Palace) and Cody Gakpo. This was a triumph of coaching rather than a checkbook.
This summer, though, the expectation is that Liverpool will spend. Slot has had more than enough time to assess his roster and, in any case, Trent Alexander-Arnold is leaving and will need to be replaced.
"I am not sure if it is going to be a lot," Slot said when he was asked by Sky Sports how many signings fans could expect. "We know, the club, [sporting director Richard Hughes], the ownership, we are all aligned on what we are trying to achieve.
"Our sporting director is more focused on the long term than me, but keeps me informed all the time. As you can expect, the targets we have now didn't come up last week. We were looking for them for a long time."
It is understood that Liverpool has made contact with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz. His teammate, Jeremie Frimpong, could also be on the way, while Milos Kerkez, the Hungarian left-back, posted what appeared to be a goodbye message to Bournemouth on social media; he is another one that the Reds admire.
While Slot and Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan played down the summer ahead when asked post-match about their plans, things are shaping up behind the scenes. There could be plenty of exits, too, with doubts over the likes of Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott, to name just two.
While it might seem odd in some ways, now is the ideal time for a refresh at Liverpool. The best teams kick on from positions of strength, and the Reds couldn't be in a much better place, having finished at least 10 points ahead of everyone else in the Premier League.
The money, not least because so little was spent last summer, is there to be used, and Slot has a couple of positions in his starting XI that he can improve on, without question, at full-back and No. 9.
Meanwhile, the incredible scenes — both after the title was confirmed against Spurs and then during the trophy lift — are the perfect advert for any player looking to make the move to Anfield, too.

With Manchester City out of the race and Bayern Munich seemingly admitting defeat in the pursuit of Wirtz, it doesn't particularly seem like he needs convincing on making the switch to Anfield. There is a pretty good chance that the German will have seen what happened when the Premier League title was confirmed, though, and that it played into his decision.
Who wouldn't look at what unfolded on Merseyside — at Anfield and well beyond — and want a piece of it? Monday's open-top bus tour will only further cement that notion.
"I love this club and you see what we can produce," Virgil van Dijk said on Sunday, pointing to the celebrations going on around him at the time inside Anfield. "If we work our socks off, if we get success, this place, in my opinion, is the best place to be, and you see it."
For both Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, who penned new terms recently, that has proven to be the case. For Wirtz and co who might soon be joining, it certainly won't have hindered the process of conving them.
Liverpool has won the Premier League, and the celebrations are well underway. Behind the scenes, now is the ideal time to lock in and further capitalize on the success.
