‘This injury is really tough’ - Gavi gets emotional

Barcelona midfielder Gavi didn’t hold back when speaking to the media after [Sunday’s 3-0 win over Athletic Club](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/barcelona-la-liga/2025/5/25/24435812/athletic-bilbao-barcelona-la-liga-final-score-match-report-recap-reactions).

The 20-year-old was back in the starting XI for the game and put in a strong showing alongside Pedri and Fermin Lopez.

Gavi says it’s been a tough season making his return from a long-term injury and people don’t realise how difficult it is for players.

“We work to make sure that the fans are happy with us. We have shown that character and that personality. We always have to win and we did it on a very difficult ground,” he said.

“Every time I’ve played, I’ve done more than enough. Many people don’t realise how difficult this injury is and how much you suffer,

“But I’ve been very important in all three titles this season, and this is what I’m left with. Last year, we didn’t win a single title.”

Gavi also hailed team-mate Pedri who put on another masterclass for Barcelona at San Mames.

“Everyone knows that Pedri is important in the team,” he added. “Everyone has their role, but what Pedri does for us is special. And I think everyone knows it.”

The Barcelona midfielder was also pretty philosophical about his chances of being called up by Spain next week for Nations League semi-final duty.

“If he calls me, then he calls me. And if not, then holidays and rest for next season to win as many trophies as possible with Barça, which is the important thing,” he added.
