Mikel Arteta confirms first four Arsenal transfers as Viktor Gyokeres breaks silence

The Premier League season is over and the attention at Arsenal now turns to transfers ahead of the 2025/26 season. The Gunners have finished second, for a third straight season, and next year they will aim to go one better.

Mikel Arteta's men ended the season with a 2-1 win over Southampton thanks to goals from Kieran Tierney and Martin Odegaard. All eyes will be on the transfer front in between now and the start of the season.

The rumour mill is gathering pace and work has to be done to get the majority of their business concluded sooner rather than later. Here, football.london takes a look at the latest transfer news..

Gyokeres hint

One of Arsenal's transfer targets Viktor Gyokeres may have played his last game for Sporting CP on Sunday as he helped the club win the Taca de Portugal over Benfica.

After falling 1-0 down to Orkun Kokcu's opener, Gyokeres stepped-up and scored from the penalty spot in the 11th minute of added time. Sporting went on to win the game with Conrad Harder and Francisco Trincao netting in extra-time.

Speaking after the game, he said: "I don't know anything, I tried to focus on the last few games, if something is true, we'll see," he said when asked about Arsenal's interest.

football.london says: "Gyokeres has given Sporting a sensational two years and he rounded it off in style on Sunday. A domestic double is a superb way for him to leave and the dramatic equaliser against Benfica will give fans something to remember.

"However, all eyes will be on what's next. Manchester United's failed attempt at qualifying for the Champions League means the Gunners have an advantage. He really could be the missing piece to the jigsaw in north London.

"If Arsenal want to be taken seriously, they could do wonders by securing the signing early in the summer."

Four transfers confirmed

Following the win at Southampton, Arsenal boss Arteta confirmed the departures of four players. Tierney, Jorginho, Raheem Sterling and goalkeeper Neto will all leave the club.

Tierney, who is set to re-join Celtic, and Jorginho will leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts while Sterling and Neto will return to their parent clubs at the end of their loan spell.

"It was important to win it, it was important as well to say goodbye to a few players who have left our football club, to say thank you for their contribution.

"Some of them, like Kieran, they’ve been on this journey for six years with us. Jorginho, we’re trying to hug him, Neto and Raheem as well. So, there are a few players that I had the duty to say thank you to. I think we all have and we wish them the best for the next season."

football.london says: "Four transfers we all expected. Tierney and Jorginho have both looked likely to depart for some time while Sterling's loan move hasn't worked at all.

"But it leaves Arsenal with four extra slots in Arteta's squad to replace. The work needed in the summer is already big but bringing in squad players alongside key starters is now a necessity."
