Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Deon Cain is continuing to make his case for an NFL return with a strong season with the Birmingham Stallions.
In another key game against the Michigan Panthers, Cain got caught two more touchdowns, ending the day with four receptions for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Cain is third in the UFL in receiving yards and second in touchdowns.
Last week, Cain caught two passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns in the Birmingham Stallions’ 29-28 loss to the St. Louis Battlehawks on Sunday. These two performances add more high-level games to Cain’s resume.
This is far from strange territory for Cain, who has played at a high level in the UFL for years with the Stallions. Cain is now a kick returner, too, adding to his versatility.
ain spent time in the 2025 season with the Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers, but the Bills released him in December. Since that time, he has not found another team or practice squad to join on even a reserve/future contract.
A sixth-round pick out of Clemson in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts, his journey in the NFL started there. However, he lasted just one full season in Indianapolis before the Steelers plucked him up in 2019 amid multiple injuries to their wide receiver room. Cain made some standout plays in the run with Mason Rudolph and Duck Hodges at quarterback.
While with the Stallions, he earned the USFL Championship Game MVP after catching three touchdowns, and turning heads as a result of his play. The 28-year-old Cain has won back-to-back championships with the Stallions.
