Railston: Alejandro Garnacho's reaction to Ruben Amorim's Manchester United speech said…

Manchester United ended the season with a 2-0 win against Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Aston Villa were looking to take all three points from Old Trafford in their bid to qualify for the Champions League, but they looked nervous from the first whistle and United played with the sort of intensity that was absent in the Europa League final.

[United](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/all-about/manchester-united-fc) were the better side and created plenty of chances, but it took until late in the second half for Amad to break the deadlock, a goal which was followed by a Christian Eriksen penalty.

Here are the moments you might have missed from Sunday's win:

**Garnacho did not applaud Amorim**

Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, Dermot Mee and Sekou Kone all watched the game from the directors' box, but there was no Alejandro Garnacho, suggesting he was in his private box.

Garnacho was left out of the squad against Villa and is free to leave the club this summer, despite [Amorim confirming](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ruben-amorim-confirms-alejandro-garnacho-31718374) he would be part of their post-season tour next week.

Amorim named Garnacho on the bench for the Europa League final and the 20-year-old hit out at the decision after the game.

Garnacho joined his teammates on the pitch for Amorim's speech and he was the only player not to applaud when it finished, which perhaps shows how he feels about United's head coach.

Although it will be a genuine shame if Garnacho's time at Old Trafford ends on this sour note, the player has nobody but himself to blame after crossing the line with his manager.

**Amorim's fury**

With 20 minutes remaining, United's xG (expected goals) was 1.52, with Villa's just 0.06, but you didn't need the stats to tell you how many chances had been wasted.

It felt like the goal was never going to come for United. Mason Mount missed a double chance, Rasmus Hojlund scored and was flagged offside, and the woodwork was struck on three occasions.

When Casemiro hit the post with a curling effort at the Stretford End, Amorim had reached boiling point and he kicked his water bottle down the touchline in anger.

Amorim has made some questionable decisions during his first season, but he cannot be blamed for players struggling to find the net. United missed a bucket-load of chances against Villa, but Amad came to the rescue late on.

United fully deserved their breakthrough and Christian Eriksen wrapped up the result by converting a penalty, but Amorim needs players who can find the back of the net consistently if he is going to be successful next season.

**United cannot lose Fernandes**

Bruno Fernandes is sometimes the only player in a red shirt who gives instructions and communicates with his teammates, and he gave Diogo Dalot an earful shortly after he came onto the pitch.

Dalot replaced the injured Noussair Mazraoui before the 20-minute mark, and he was quickly deep in dialogue with Fernandes after an attack broke down, with the United captain keen to give instructions.

United cannot afford to lose Fernandes this summer. He is their standard setter, their leader and the driving force in the dressing room.

**Mazraoui straight down the tunnel**

Mazraoui pulled up with a hamstring injury and received medical treatment on the side of the pitch early in the first half. He could not continue and went straight down the tunnel.

Then his replacement Dalot picked up a knock and didn't come out for the second half.

United are set to play post-season friendlies in Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong this week but some players could be ruled out.

**Another Glazers protest**

The day started with another protest against the Glazer family, which saw hundreds of fans congregate at the Old Trafford forecourt. The 1958 have led the fight against the Glazers over the last few years and they were responsible for organising the protest before facing Aston Villa.

Fans want the Americans out of Old Trafford and the protests will continue.
