Alejandro Garnacho in shock Liverpool transfer claim as Man United exit theory raised

Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho applauds the fans after the Premier League match at Old Trafford

Manchester United academy graduate Alejandro Garnacho faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford beyond this summer

Manchester United ended a desperately poor season on Sunday with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Amad and substitute Christian Eriksen both found the back of the net in the second half of Sunday's victory to secure a well-deserved three points for Ruben Amorim's team. United dominated the match, missing several good chances both before and after Villa's goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was shown a red card.

The Argentine was dismissed just before half-time for a reckless tackle on Rasmus Hojlund outside the penalty box.

The Reds have ended a terrible campaign in 15th place and will not play European football next season after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

Below are some of the latest United headlines as well as a view on each one...

Garnacho claim

According to claims in Spanish publication DefensaCentral, Garnacho wants to leave United on one condition. After growing up idolising Cristiano Ronaldo, Garnacho is reportedly dreaming of a summer transfer to Real Madrid, reflecting Ronaldo's move from Old Trafford to the Bernabeu in 2009.

However, should it become clear that a move to the Spanish giants is not possible, then Liverpool are said to be on Garnacho’s list of alternative destinations. It is claimed that Garnacho has told his agents to first explore the possibility of his dream move, but also to make it clear that he would be open to joining the Merseysiders, despite the fierce rivalry with United.

Isaac Seelochan of The Manchester Evening News: "Garnacho will almost certainly not join Liverpool this summer. The prospect of a United academy graduate joining the club's biggest rivals would never be considered. A move to Real Madrid is also fanciful for a player who has shown very little to back up the hype that surrounded him when he first broke through."

Error slammed

Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett believes referee Thomas Bramall made “a huge error“ in disallowing Morgan Rogers’ goal for Aston Villa during their 2-0 defeat to United on Sunday.

“The goalkeeper does not have control of the ball it is loose and the actions of the forward are not dangerous," he said via Football Insider.

“The referee at that point committed an howler by blowing to stop play. He should have waited the outcome and after the goal was scored the situation could them be reviewed by the VAR.

“Looking at the clip the goal should have been allowed to stand. A huge error by the referee.”

Isaac Seelochan of The Manchester Evening News: "Yes, the goal should have stood and Villa have every right to feel hard done by. But they also played terribly for most of the match and deservedly lost."
