Man United forward Marcus Rashford is willing to take a pay cut to facilitate a move to Barcelona, according to the club’s former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the 27-year-old would “love” to join Hansi Flick’s side.

As things stand, however, a loan deal is viewed as the mostly likely solution to his immediate future given the finances involved in a permanent move.

Football Insider revealed Villa face paying £130million over five years in wages and transfer fee if they sign Rashford at his current £350,000-a-week salary.

As a result, there are only a small number of clubs believed to be able to afford him, although taking a pay cut will go a long way towards his exit.

Brown told Football Insider on 19 May that Rashford is ready for another loan move if a long-term solution cannot be found.

Marcus Rashford makes Man United exit decision

Brown told Football Insider on 12 May that Rashford wants to join Barcelona and has changed agents in hope of securing a deal.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Tottenham and Aston Villa, insisted that the only way a permanent deal could be done is if he agrees to slash his wages.

“There are only three or four teams who could realistically sign him,” he told Football Insider.

“But it ultimately comes down to whether they can afford him.

“He’ll have to take a pay cut if he wants to make a permanent move, and perhaps even if it only ends up in a loan move.

“From what I hear, he would be willing to do that.

“Barcelona is the one he’d love to join and we know there’s interest, but not on his current wages.

*“If that’s the only way to make it happen, it’s something he will be open to.*“

Ruben Amorim gives Rasmus Hojlund green light to leave

Talk about Rashford’s future comes amid speculation about the futures of a number of first-team stars at Old Trafford this summer.

Brown told Football Insider on 22 May that Rasmus Hojlund could leave Man United as Ruben Amorim is willing to let him go to fund a replacement.

However, they will aim to recoup a significant proportion of the £72million spent to sign him from Atalanta in 2023, with their price set at £50million.

Brown told Football Insider on 17 April that Juventus are among a number of Italian clubs watching Hojlund as United are expected to cut their losses.
