Report - Clear favourite to sign Darwin Nunez emerges: Talks underway

Liverpool are set to sell Darwin Nunez as a clear favourite emerges. Talks are underway.

Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool after this season. The Uruguayan nearly left back in January, as exclusively revealed by Anfield Watch.

The Reds rejected an offer from Saudi Arabia because they didn’t want to lose Nunez in the middle of an important season. There are no such qualms now the campaign is over and Liverpool will listen to offers.

Interest from Saudi Arabia remains and it’s expected that some big-money offers will arrive. Exactly where Nunez goes, though, isn’t particularly clear.

However, it appears a clear favourite to land the striker has now emerged.

Atletico Madrid push for Darwin Nunez

365scores claim an exclusive with a source from the Saudi Investment Fund, suggesting Nunez has been offered to several clubs. None of them, however, believe him to be a priority target right now.

“Darwin Nunez has already been offered to major clubs in the League, but no club has agreed to sign him yet, as they have preferred to prioritise other options, with Nunez as a backup plan,” says the source.

The same outlet then claims Nunez is now looking more likely to remain in Europe. Both Napoli and AC Milan are pushing to sign the forward, though neither is favourite.

Atletico Madrid are in pole position to land Nunez. Talks are ‘underway’ to get him there and they view him as their first-choice signing this summer.

Of course, that’s in line with other recent reports that suggest there’s quite the push from Madrid to get this done. Nunez is even reportedly looking to move to the city as everything progresses.

It appears this is the one to watch, then. Nunez is near-guaranteed to leave Liverpool in the summer, having fallen out of favour under Arne Slot.

His last Premier League start came back in March and that was in fact his only league start in 2025. It really couldn’t be much more apparent that there’s no future with Liverpool.
