Man Utd ratings 2024/25, 8/10 Bruno Fernandes the saviour with Amad but 2/10 player needs to be cut ruthlessly

Manchester United fans can wake up because the season from hell is finally over and it’s now time to rate the players who led the “effort”.

The club saw major changes on and off the pitch this season with Ruben Amorim replacing Erik ten Hag and the results were not ideal, to put it politely.

Numerous records of the wrong kind were broken almost weekly but still, some players emerged with credit to their names.

Others have probably ensured this was their last season in the famous red shirts. So who’s who? Here are our player ratings for Man Utd for the 2024/25 season.

[Players who made the squad but did not play, like Tom Heaton, Godwill Kukonki, etc aren’t included, and neither are the summer departures]

Goalkeepers

Andre Onana – 5

Would have probably gotten a four or a three had he not started the season as one of the in-form players. Mistakes galore and the confident ball player has disappeared. Should exit next summer if not this one.

Altay Bayindir – 4

Had a golden opportunity to become Man Utd’s No. 1 but he somehow ended up being even worse. Doesn’t get rated even lower because his penalty heroics vs Arsenal remain fresh in the mind. Will leave in the summer.

Defenders

Leny Yoro – 7

Would have been rated even higher had injuries not threatened to derail his season. When he played, he showed unquestioned glimpses of his world-class potential. A building block for the next great United team.

Lisandro Martinez – 6

Injuries did derail his season as he’s out until at least November. Had become as important for Amorim as he was for Ten Hag. Crucial next season before a decision might have to be made next summer.

Matthijs de Ligt – 6.5

Came through a difficult first few games to establish himself as a leader. Injury worries again didn’t allow him to truly flourish but showed enough to secure his immediate future.

Harry Maguire – 7.5

Was a model professional and a symbol of consistency in a wretched season. Kept De Ligt out of the team for a while then shone with him. United’s season would have been much worse without his heroics.

Victor Lindelof – 5

Called upon on the odd occasion to do a job when injuries piled up. Looked a level below what’s required. Reliable but not good enough. Leaves in the summer after his contract expires.

Ayden Heaven – 7

An extremely small sample size of five games but each game was brilliant. United have a superstar there if they can keep him fit, starting from next season.

Tyler Fredricson – 6.5

Similarly to Heaven, Fredricson rarely put a foot wrong after being called upon late in the season as the squad focused on Europe. Good enough to stay as a squad member next season.

Jonny Evans – 5

Became unexpectedly important for Ten Hag before he was sacked and fared well enough. Was always going to become an outsider once Ruben Amorim’s intense style was implemented. Set to retire.

Noussair Mazraoui – 7.5

Was running on fumes by the end of the season where he emerged as United’s best summer signing. Played five or six positions and his footballing intelligence shone everywhere. Had the odd bad game but considering the circumstances, he was remarkable all season.

Diogo Dalot – 6

Props to him for always being available, something which cost him near the end, but his form remained patchy throughout. Looks unsuitable to being a flying wing-back and his long-term future might be as a wide centre-back or a backup.

Luke Shaw – 4

Struggled for form like Dalot but was rarely available too, a nightmare combination. United should bite the hands off any offer that comes for him.

Tyrell Malacia – 4

Returned from a cruel injury but was never going to be in Amorim’s plans. Left and won a league title with PSV. Permanent exit likely in the summer.

Harry Amass – 6

Acquitted himself well in the senior team after a long-awaited breakthrough but the physicality concerns started showing near the end of the season. Crucial pre-season and a battle with Diego Leon awaits.

Patrick Dorgu – 6.5

Added much-needed physicality and running to the team but that looked all there is to him. Needs to improve on the ball but has the raw tools to become elite eventually. A project signing.

Midfielders

Casemiro – 5.5

It was a season of two halves for Casemiro – one historically bad, the other a defiant resurgence. It averages out over the whole season. Still not good enough for the wage packet he gets. Expected to be on the chopping block.

Manuel Ugarte – 6.5

A season that was slow to get going but picked up pace once Van Nistelrooy then Amorim came in. Showed there was more to his game than just winning the ball back. Casemiro’s resurgence pushed him back but next season should be the true breakout.

Kobbie Mainoo – 5

A career that just saw one rise after another finally had a setback. Amorim didn’t have a role for him as he played in every position from deeper midfielder to striker. Vast potential but needs clarity over his role.

Christian Eriksen – 5

Had a hot streak of scoring just before Ten Hag left but became a fringe player in Amorim’s intense team. Valued for his skills on the ball but the stamina is not there anymore. Will leave this summer as a fan favourite.

Toby Collyer – 4

Has the opposite problem to Eriksen. Full of running but basic on the ball. Add the increasingly regular injury worries and the season becomes one to forget. United could repeat their Willy Kambwala trick and sell him while he has good value in the summer.

Mason Mount – 5

The one high in the Europa League semifinal can’t save an otherwise underwhelming season which was slow to get going because of injuries and ended with a whimper of a performance in the final. Remains Amorim’s favourite but needs to break out next season. Time is ticking.

Bruno Fernandes – 8

Remains the heartbeat of the team despite struggling in the UEL final. United would genuinely be in a relegation fight without his efforts. Deserved better from his teammates.

Forwards

Rasmus Hojlund – 2

Took a huge step backward this season as he struggled to contribute anything to the game even when he scored. On a different wavelength to his teammates and became the target of fans’ ire. The “Young with potential” claim doesn’t fly anymore when exciting glimpses have disappeared. A ruthless club cuts ties this summer.

Joshua Zirkzee – 6

His late-season injury stopped what was quickly becoming a successful debut season after a difficult start. His slickness on the ball isn’t matched by many and even though he’s not a striker, the signing doesn’t look so bad anymore.

Amad – 8

United’s saviour this season alongside Fernandes. Had to wait for Ten Hag’s sacking for a chance but he took it and ran with it when he was given the chance. Ends the season as United’s most threatening player and a future building block.

Marcus Rashford – 4.5

Rashford scored a few for United before falling out spectacularly with Amorim. The unprofessional way it all ended will hurt. Has played his last game for United.

Antony – 4

This rating is for Antony, the Man Utd player, not the player who’s tearing it up in Spain with Real Betis. Ten Hag invited criticism on him by playing favouritism despite the player struggling, while Amorim quickly realised he had no role for him.

Alejandro Garnacho – 6.5

Played a ridiculous 58 games and was United’s most consistent, albeit frustrating attacking threat. A shame how things are ending between Garnacho and Amorim but he’ll likely succeed elsewhere. Attitude remained a constant talking point.

Chido Obi – 6

Showed exciting glimpses that promised a brighter future but was a little too raw to be United’s regular backup striker. A crucial pre-season awaits.
