A closer look at some of the latest transfer news for Liverpool and Manchester United now the Premier League season is done and dusted.
That’s a wrap for another thrilling Premier League season, with Liverpool crowned champions in their first season under Arne Slot.
After some well-earned celebrations, the Dutch manager and his team will shift attention to the summer transfer market, where they are expected to oversee some impressive deals.
Talks of the Reds already closing in on deals with Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz have been doing the rounds, but Liverpool have more options to explore. Let’s take a look at the latest rumours surrounding the the Champions and their rivals ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Liverpool reignite interest in Anthony Gordon
After a hot pursuit of Anthony Gordon’s signature last summer, Liverpool are reportedly back in the race to bring him to Anfield.
Last year’s saga was a turbulent one and while talks collapsed between the two, the Reds remain interested in the winger’s signature. According to TBR Football, Liverpool are among the clubs still showing interest in signing Gordon but they face competition from both Chelsea and Arsenal.
Newcastle United are eager to keep their squad in tact but they have set an asking price for Gordon, with the expectation that clubs will come knocking once the window opens for business. The report claims that the desired transfer fee for the winger will be in excess of £75 million.
The 3AM Verdict: Liverpool and Gordon looked to be a nailed on deal last summer but it wasn’t to be. The former Everton star is an impressive talent and would undoubtedly give his all at Anfield but the bigger picture boils down to the rest of Liverpool’s summer business. If they opt to keep Luis Diaz on the books, it will be tough to guarantee Gordon regular minutes, especially with Cody Gakpo also prolific on the left.
The Reds are also on the market for a new centre-forward and with the likes of Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres set to cost a pretty penny, the club may want to save the quoted Gordon money for elsewhere.
Manchester United handed big Antony sale boost
Manchester United are drawing a line under their disastrous season and looking ahead to how they can improve over the summer. The Red Devils are expected to axe multiple players as part of a significant overhaul, and Antony is one of the names on the chopping block.
After reigniting his season with Real Betis, the Brazilian has gone from struggling to find suitors to having teams fighting for his signature. According to The Independent, Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Antony after his career resurgence with Betis.
His current asking price is set at £32.5 million but with both Betis and Atletico keen on his signature, the two clubs could spark a bidding war which might inch the fee closer to the £40 million mark.
The 3AM Verdict: After struggling to make his mark with United this season, it looked like they would have a hard time finding a buyer for the Brazilian this summer. It’s highly unlikely his mammoth £85 million price tag will be matched but if United can recoup even a fraction of what they paid, they can pump it back into the funds to buy new players.
Knowing there are clubs interested in a player who had zero Premier League goal contributions this season will be a huge boost for United and their summer plans.
