It has been a brilliant campaign from Jordan Pickford who has continued to show his excellence between the sticks.

Jamie Carragher hailed Pickford as Everton’s best player this season and there is no surprise to see him save Everton again against Newcastle.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer admitted he was left so impressed by the 31-year-old shot stopper.

“You’ve got to give a well done to Everton all over the park, but particularly Jordan Pickford,” he said.

“Whenever Newcastle did get through that defence, he was the difference maker. Whether it was those legs or those particular saves, they just couldn’t find a way past him.

“Newcastle probably didn’t deserve anything from the game.”

Everton fans could be heard singing Pickford’s name throughout the majority of the game as the former Sunderland man shone on Tyneside.

Pickford has been huge for Everton over recent years and that was shown on Sunday as he put in a huge display against one of his rival clubs.

Pickford said Newcastle fans give him so much grief due to his past as a Sunderland academy product.

Sunday’s victory on Tyneside will have been made that much sweeter but he will be gutted it did not ruin their Champions League qualification.

Regardless, Pickford really impressed for the Toffees and showed exactly why he is England’s number one.
