West Ham recorded a strong 3-1 victory at Ipswich Town on the final day of what has been a miserable Premier League campaign.

The Hammers have been thoroughly underwhelming for most of the season, but finished with wins in their last two Premier League away games to offer some salvation.

West Ham’s win meant they finished above Manchester United and Tottenham, but 14th is lower than where they expected to be at the start of the campaign.

Jarrod Bowen was one shining light for West Ham during the season, and the winger was outstanding yet again in the victory at Portman Road.

Micah Richards praises Bowen intelligence in Ipswich win

Bowen was, yet again, West Ham’s best player against Ipswich and played a part in two of the three goals on the day.

The first goal came as Bowen seized upon a loose ball before playing in James Ward-Prowse to finish off, before his second came from a stunning long-range strike.

Micah Richards has now praised Bowen for his role in the first goal and immediately highlighted his attacking movement in the final third.

Reacting to footage on Match of the Day, he said: “Just look at his football intelligence here.”

Bowen’s Premier League stats this season

“He’s almost just creeping in, knowing that something could come his way, then he makes a run, reads it, then look at this for a reverse ball to Ward Prowse.

“It’s just brilliant, brilliant play, and you can always rely on him. He’s got four goals in his last four games, and even when West Ham have been struggling, he’s someone you can always count on.”

Bowen the shining light for West Ham this season

Several West Ham attackers were below par this season, but Bowen has taken the responsibility of carrying the team on his back.

The 28-year-old reached double figures for both goals and assists, setting up 10 strikes in addition to his 13 goals, in what was one of his best seasons yet.

Bowen is a West Ham great, and even when the team was at their worst, he would make the difference in front of goal, while helping improve the players around him.

The winger is captain for this reason, as he leads by example on the pitch and drags his team to results which they may otherwise not have been capable of, and the Hammers won just one of the four games he missed over the Premier League season.

It is critical he sticks around this summer.
