Robert Lewandowski races past 100 for Barcelona
Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring for Barcelona at San Mames and hit his 100th goal for the club in the process. The century is a new landmark for Lewandowski and one that he’s reached pretty quickly, too.
In fact only four other players - Mariano Martin, Laszlo Kubala, Luis Suarez and Evaristo, have reached 100 goals quicker than Lewandowski.
5 - With 101 goals, Robert Lewandowski has become the fifth fastest Barcelona player to reach 100 goals in all competitions (147), after Mariano Martín (99), László Kubala (103), Luis Suárez (120) and Evaristo (143). Milestone. pic.twitter.com/fYtatShnoC

Some quick thinking from Pedri and Fermin Lopez set up Lewandowski for a little dink over Unai Simon to open the scoring and bag his century.
Lewandowski had actually been stuck on 99 for a while – he hadn’t scored since April 9 – but after he’d got one he didn’t have to wait long for another.
A corner in from Raphinha was helpfully flicked on by Unai Gomes for Lewandowski to finish at the back post. He really should have gone on and netted a hat-trick but it wasn’t to be.
Still that’s now 43 goals in all competition for Lewandowski this season and 27 in La Liga alone. Not bad going for a player who will turn 37 in the summer.
He also becomes the 22nd player in Barcelona’s history to reach 100 goals in official competitions and certainly won’t be the last.
Lewandowski has missed out on the Pichichi this season to Kylian Mbappe but will certainly end the season the happier of the two players after winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Super Cup.
Barca say goodbye to Inaki Pena?
Hansi Flick handed Inaki Pena a start in goal for what is likely to be the final time. It was a kind gesture from the Barcelona boss as he looks set to wave goodbye to the academy graduate in the summer.
Pena had the chance to be Barca’s No. 1 this season but couldn’t take it and ended up back on the bench watching Szczesny enjoy a fairytale end to his career instead. It’s not clear if Szczesny will stay on but Barca are being linked with a move for Joan Garcia now in any case.
“Iñaki deserved to play today. He’s always trained well, it wasn’t an easy situation,” said Flick afterwards. “I don’t know if it will be his last game, but I’m very proud of his performance today.”
Yet you can’t help but feel Pena will surely look for a new challenge. If this was his last game, then he leaves after helping Barcelona sign off a fantastic season with a win and a clean sheet. He even prevented Pau Cubarsi scoring an unfortunate own goal with a great stop.
The goalkeeper has been at Barcelona for 13 years so leaving will not be easy but it looks the right decision for all parties. Let’s hope he can find a good club where he can play regularly and show what he can do.
Perfect Pedri looking unstoppable
There are plenty of contenders for Barcelona’s player of the season, but there wouldn’t be many complaints at all if it were handed to Pedri.
The Spain star has had an extraordinary season and played a key role in the team’s success. We all know the talent he possesses, but this year he’s shrugged off all his injury issues and played almost every single minute for Flick.
Pedri’s appearance against Athletic was his 60th of the season in all competitions and he finished on a real high. The midfielder took control of the game and even earned plenty of applause from the home fans at San Mames which tells you all you need to know.

“It was hard to imagine playing 59 out of 60 matches knowing where I was coming from,” he admitted afterwards. “I’ve prepared thoroughly, injuries have spared me, and I’ve been able to enjoy myself on the pitch.”
After a stellar season, Pedri has a genuine claim to be the best midfielder on the planet and the coming years will offer him the chance to head towards legendary status. The only sad thing is that now the season’s over we’ll have to wait a little while to watch Pedri in Barca action again.
